Sicardi | Ayers | Bacino is pleased to announce our participation in The Art Show, organized by the Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA), at the Park Avenue Armory in New York from November 1-5. In Booth C3, the gallery presents a solo exhibition of recent paintings by contemporary artist Rodrigo Facundo [b. 1958, Colombia].
Facundo draws upon his diverse training in a variety of mediums, including photographic techniques, sculpture, electronics, assembly, metallurgy, weaving, ceramics, metal forging, miniatures, the production and manipulation of felt, and graphic production as he approaches his practice. This selection of paintings represents his technical mastery of the medium and his conceptual finesse in creating complex paradisal visions of nature and humanity that artfully weave together conflicting images within the realm of fantastic beauty.
In this new body of work, Facundo roots the paintings' compositional structures in Toile du Juoy wallpaper, using the historic design both as an aesthetic framework and a symbolic one as he invokes colonial and contemporary world views. Man, flora, and fauna are rendered in the incredibly fine and precise brushstrokes of the Indian miniature technique, effectively drawing the viewer in to the painting and initially obscuring the subtlely grave nature of the subject matter, ultimately subverting the pure fantastic beauty of his artistic mastery.
Facundo's work is included in renowned public and private collections in Colombia, Latin America, and Europe, including the Banco de la República, Bogotá, Colombia; the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art, Bogotá, Colombia; the Bogotá Museum of Contemporary Art, Bogotá, Colombia; the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection (CPPC), Caracas, Venezuela and New York City, New York, USA; and Brondesbury Holdings, Caracas, Venezuela.
