September 8 - November 3, 2012
Sicardi Gallery is pleased to present Not Space Nor Time, a solo exhibition by Pedro Tyler upstairs in the Project Room. A cocktail reception with the artist is scheduled for Saturday, September 8 from 6 to 8 p.m.
For his first solo project at Sicardi Gallery, Pedro Tyler will present several meditative works that explore themes like measurement, color, and light. The title of the show, “Not Space Nor Time,” was inspired by philosopher Gilles Deleuze, who once said that “Colors appear in space and time but in themselves they are neither space nor time.” One wall-piece consists of 100 bas-relief portraits of visual and performing artists who have committed suicide, color-coded according to occupation, and created by scraping, sanding and burning rulers. Other works were inspired by the evolution in the use of color by Rothko and Van Gogh.
Tyler was born in Uruguay in 1975, and now lives and works in Chile. His work has been included exhibitions in Montevideo, Santiago, and elsewhere in South America, and we are excited to introduce him to audiences in the United States.
This exhibition will be on view through November 3. For more information contact Sicardi Gallery at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit us on the web at www.sicardigallery.com.
