“Talking Color: Celebrating Carlos Cruz-Diez in Houston” on May 8 at the University of Houston’s M.D. Anderson Library Elizabeth D. Rockwell Pavilion. The free public event delves into the eminent artist and his iconic works of kinetic and optical art. “Talking Color” is produced in collaboration with Buffalo Bayou Partnership.
Carlos Cruz-Diez Jr, Director of the Atelier Cruz-Diez Paris and son of the artist, will explore his father’s work in an insightful conversation with Mari Carmen Ramírez, Wortham Curator of Latin American Art and Director of the International Center for the Arts of the Americas at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Lea Weingarten, Consulting Director of Public Art of the University of Houston System will introduce the program. “Talking Color” launches a series of public events across Houston, including a major installation and a seminal new artwork from the artist.
This summer the University of Houston’s Cruz-Diez commission, “Double Physichromie,” will be re-sited to a green space central to the University of Houston Arts District in recognition of its importance as a centerpiece of the university public art collection.
