For Art Basel 2016, Sicardi Gallery will present works by Carlos Cruz-Diez (b. 1923, Venezuela), Sérvulo Esmeraldo (b. 1929, Brazil), Manuel Espinosa (1912-2006, Argentina), León Ferrari (1920-2013, Argentina), Gego (1912-1994, Germany/Venezuela), Antonio Lizárraga (1924-2009, Argentina), Alejandro Otero (1921-1990, Venezuela), Julio Le Parc (b. 1928, Argentina), Francisco Sobrino (1932-2014, Spain/France), Jesús Rafael Soto (1923-2005, Venezuela), and Luis Tomasello (1915-2014, Argentina). The selection explores geometric sculpture, painting, and drawing from the mid-century avant-gardes of Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela. In their diverse approaches to the problems of color, line, and form, these artists make major propositions about spatial relationships and optical sensations of depth and movement that continue to influence art, architecture, and design today.
