Gego

Poétique de la ligne

La Maison de l’Amérique latine and the Collection Mercantil de Caracas have jointly organized the first exhibition in Paris of work by Gego (Gertrud Goldschmidt, 1912-1994).

For her vision, career trajectory, and her teaching, Gego left a deep imprint on Venezuelan art, and she remains one of the most important artists of Latin America, in the 20th century. She is often associated with the great abstract artists Lygia Clark, Mathias Goeritz, Helio Oiticica, and Mira Schendel.

The exhibition includes 40 important works from the Collection Mercantil of Caracas, along with various selected works from the Gego Foundation. A catalog, with texts by Anne Louyot, Matthieu Poirier, and Tahia Rivero is available online.
