Symposium – Here Is Where We Meet: Art and Resistance

The symposium Here Is Where We Meet: Art and Resistance is organised by the Oude Kerk and is part of the exhibition Here Is Where We Meet by Aimée Zito Lema. The symposium provides a space for discussion of art and art history, and sheds light on historical events and social resistance, and specifically on the oeuvre of Argentine artist León Ferrari.
Currently, the site-specific exhibition Here Is Where We Meet by Aimée Zito Lema is on view in the Oude Kerk. Zito Lema grew up with artist and activist León Ferrari (1920-2013); he was a friend of her father. During the first lockdown, she related his work to her exhibition. Together we decided to add a footnote to the exhibition with works by Ferrari. Every year on 21 June, we organise a symposium about iconoclasm. This year we organise the symposium about art and social resistance during the exhibition Here Is Where We Meet, since both Aimee’s and Ferrari’s work deals with resistance. The Oude Kerk was the scene of many moments of resistance, the most important being the Iconoclasm of 1566.
