The Argentine artist Liliana Porter has been awarded the thirtieth edition of the Tomás Francisco Prieto Medal Award, granted by the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre – Real Casa de la Moneda in recognition of the entire professional and human career of prestigious creators.
The jury was chaired by Valldecabres Ortiz and made up of Hernán Cortés, an academic from the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts; Guillermo Navarro, academic director of the Master's Degree in Engraving and Graphic Design at the University of Castilla-La Mancha; Inma Prieto, director of Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art in Palma de Mallorca; and Yolanda Romero, director of the Banco de España Collection. They have wanted to recognize both Porter's international career and the diversity of techniques that she has approached (drawing, engraving, photography, sculpture) in her reflection on the methods of reproduction and the frontiers of representation. Currently, photography, video, collages and small installations predominate in her work: figurines and discreet souvenirs taken from her travels -with a historical and geographical background- are placed on empty monochromatic backgrounds to address philosophical issues and emotional states.
