Biografías
On view in the Main Gallery June 7 – July 26, 2014
With an opening reception, Friday, June 6, 6 – 8 pm,
preceded by a members’ preview at 5 pm.*
Oscar Muñoz: Biografías features a selection of compelling video works by one of Latin America’s most significant contemporary artists. A recent recipient of the 2013 Prince Claus Award, Muñoz’ provocative videos investigate human conditions of fragility and explore the instability of the human image in relationship to constructions of history, identity, and memory. Featuring the potent three channel video installation Biografías (2002) as well as the single channel videos Línea del destino (2006) and Hombre de Arena (2006-2009), the exhibition presents works that examine the political and social conditions of contemporary Colombia, including its cultures of violence and poverty, while simultaneously evoking universal and archetypal conditions of human consciousness through allusions to Classical Greek mythology.
The Oscar Muñoz Biografías exhibition is organized by the UNM Art Museum as a satellite exhibition of Digital Latin America, organized by 516 Arts and partners. For more information about Digital Latin America please visit 516arts.org
