RODRIGO FACUNDO [1958, Colombia]
After studying art at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, Rodrigo Facundo completed a BA and a MA in painting at the University of Illinois, Champaign, USA. Upon his return to Colombia, he received a postgraduate degree in multimedia at the School of Arts of the Universidad de los Andes.
Equally important as his academic training is his constant learning of various crafts and artistic traditions in schools and with expert instructors worldwide. Rodrigo Facundo has studied photographic techniques, sculpture, electronics, assembly, metallurgy, weaving, ceramics, metal forging, miniatures, the production and manipulation of felt, and graphic production.
Rodrigo Facundo has been an active project manager, along with his creative work. As director of LIA (Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Arts), a venue he co-founded with María Teresa Guerrero, Hermann Pieschacón, and Leonor Cobo, he has worked to promote many young artists and established masters from different countries around the world.
Since he began his career as an artist, he has received important scholarships, awards, and mentions. His work is included in renowned public and private collections in Colombia, Latin America, and Europe, including the Banco de la República, Bogotá, Colombia; the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art, Bogotá, Colombia; the Bogotá Museum of Contemporary Art, Bogotá, Colombia; the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection (CPPC), Caracas, Venezuela and New York City, New York, USA; and Brondesbury Holdings, Caracas, Venezuela.
