Pablo Siquier

Sicardi Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Argentine artist Pablo Siquier.  Pablo Siquier: Hostile is the fourth solo show at the gallery and will include a selection of medium and large-scale graphite drawings on paper in the Sicardi Gallery Project Room.  Join us for a cocktail reception with the artist on Thursday, September 15, from 5 - 8 pm.  

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1961, Siquier studied at the Escuela National de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón. In the 1980’s, Siquier co-founded the Grupo de la X, a collective connected to Madi sculptor Enio Iommi (1926-2013). Mackinson notes, “The collection of drawings points toward a historical reference that is enabled by a vision of cultural blending, a condition typical to the urban setting of Buenos Aires.  Siquier analyzes the importance of the legacy of perspective, ornament, and design in both their European modernist and Latin American syncretic versions, and the manners of forging a synthesis with them today; while also making liberal use of formal operations from the history of representation and visual culture to produce drawings where the gaze is constituted as a fundamental element.”
