Description

As the first program in a year-long calendar of 20th anniversary celebrations, Sicardi Gallery invites you to a screening of the award-winning 2014 film Ensoulment: A Diverse Analysis of the Feminine in Western Culture.

Directed by Lorís Simón Salum, the animated documentary is a study of the Jungian theory of the feminine, told from an autobiographical point of view. Taking as its premise the idea that the feminine principle is a group of genderless characteristics related to emotion, intuition, creativity, receptiveness, and nurturing, the film proposes a recovery of these elements in contemporary life, and a more holistic pairing of this principle with that of the masculine.

In 2014, Ensoulment received awards from the Barcelona International Film Festival (Grand Jury Award), Mexico International Film Festival (Golden Palm Award), International Independent Film Award (Platinum Award), International Film Festival for Spirituality, Religion, & Visionary (Award of Merit), and Documentary & Short International Movie Awards (Gold Award). It was an official selection for the MicGenero: Muestra Internacional de Cine con Perspectiva de Genero, the Mujeres en Foco: Festival Internacional de Cine para la Equidad de Género, and #VOFF4: Viewster Online Film Festival.

The film is 56 minutes in length. The screening will be followed by a short Q&A with the director, and a reception.
