OPENING RECEPTION WITH THE ARTIST | Thursday, May 30, 6 to 8 pm

Sicardi Gallery is pleased to present Pablo Siquier: Structure. In his most recent work, Siquier creates black and white images that evoke expansive labyrinths, city landscapes, or intricate explorations of urban rhythms. This exhibition will include the sculpture 1308, along with recent drawings and a wall installation. The artist will be present at an opening reception on Thursday, May 30 from 6 to 8 pm.

In Siquier’s earliest paintings, he used vibrant colors to construct relationships between a dominant form in the foreground and the horizon lines or background planes of his compositions. In the early 1990s, he restricted his palette—finally abandoning color completely—and began making black and white paintings and drawings inspired by architectural motifs. Built especially for this exhibition, the carbon steel structure 1308 connects the stylistic trajectory of Siquier's paintings and drawings with three-dimensional form; it offers a large-scale structural approach to the practice of abstraction.

Born in Buenos Aires, Siquier studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón. In the 1980s, he co-founded the Grupo de la X, a collective connected to the Madí sculptor Enio Iommi. He has had solo exhibitions at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; the Centro Cultural Recoleta, Buenos Aires; and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Buenos Aires. In 2004, he was the Argentine representative at the São Paulo Biennial. His work is included in many public and private collections, including the Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires; Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art, Austin; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Rosario; and the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires.
