Press Release

Sicardi | Ayers | Bacino is pleased to announce the opening of Unframed in our upstairs Project Room. This informal exhibition questions the notion of the frame and explores the area beyond its conceptual confines. From works that inherently do not require framing, such as Pablo Siquier's wall drawing 0301, to prints and drawings on paper that have not yet been framed, this exhibition invites the viewer to engage with the work in a visceral way.

Without the formality of framing, which often symbolically denotes that a work is 'finished,' the works in this exhibition offer insight into the artist's process and often show more of the artist's hand than is normally seen. For example, in Antonio Asis' Chromatisme quadrille the numerical system that governed his grid paintings is exposed rather than being hidden behind the mat. Many works in this exhibition could be framed upon acquisition, inviting the collector to make the framing decisions that ultimately have a profound impact on how the work is experienced.
